The pulse transformer is cased in a plastic shell and has a ratio of 1:1:1 i.e. it has one primary coil & two secondary coils. This is the simple transformer for coupling input to two outputs. 4503 Pulse transformer has six legs where two legs act as primary whereas 4 legs represent two pairs of secondary coils. Both the secondary windings are electrically isolated to ensure minimum leakage inductance between the two. So when a pulse is provided at the primary pulse we receive output at both the secondary outputs. This can be used for firing two SCRs in inverse configuration.

Pulse transformers for some applications also gate transformers or gate drive transformers trigger transformers wide-band transformers or signal transformers are a type of transformer optimized and designed for the transmission of voltage pulses between its windings and into the load. A pulse transformer is used to provide isolation in applications where small bursts of rectangular pulses are needed.

Pulse transformers can be used for signal transmission, low-power control circuits, camera flashes, radar systems, high-power switched-mode power supplies, and other fields where the pulsed form of relatively high voltage along with isolation is required.
